Full Gear continues to foster safe motorcycle riders in Tasmania

Michael Ferguson, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The Rockliff Liberal Government is working hard to improve road safety right around Tasmania.

We know that education is key to road safety, and today congratulate the eight community members who have graduated from the Full Gear motorcycle program which aims to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes on our roads.

The course, run by the Glenorchy City Council in partnership with Bucaan Community House, and funded through the Road Safety Levy under the Towards Zero Action Plan 2020-2024, teaches participants practical skills and knowledge to become safer and more responsible motorcyclists.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, said the Rockliff Liberal Government is proud to support the Full Gear program.

“We are committed to improving road safety, and community-based road safety programs are an important way to engage young people,” Mr Ferguson said.

“The Full Gear motorcycle program assists young riders in obtaining their motorcycle license and teaches them safe riding behaviours. The program helps riders to overcome the cost of obtaining a motorcycle licence and contributes $400 towards protective gear to improve rider safety.

“It’s great to celebrate another eight young riders progressing through the Full Gear program during National Road Safety Week. Through this program, we see an improvement in the participant’s attitudes towards road safety so that they leave the program as safer riders.

“We all have a shared responsibility for road safety. The Full Gear program demonstrates that by working together, we can save lives on our roads”.
