Funding boost for Griffith pound and rehoming Centre

Tuesday May 26, 2020

The Griffith Pound and Rehoming Centre will benefit from the NSW State Government’s Council Pound Grant Program (CPGP).

The $4,000 allocated to Griffith City Council will be used as part of facility improvements.

Chair of the Griffith Pound and Rehoming Centre Working Group, Councillor Doug Curran, welcomed the injection of funds.

“This money will help ensure that the welfare of animals in our care is maintained,” Councillor Curran said.

“The planned improvements include an upgrade of storage space to allow a larger variety of pet foods to cater for animals of all ages as required.

“We are extremely grateful for any extra funds we receive as the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care is a priority.”

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said the Council Pound Grant Program (CPGP) will ensure councils continue to operate amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I encourage anyone thinking about welcoming a pet into their home on a forever basis to visit a NSW council pound or one of the many approved rehoming organisations across the State and rescue an animal in desperate need of a home,” Mrs Hancock said.

Pet owners are reminded that lifetime registration, de-sexing and microchipping cats or dogs, creating a profile in the NSW Pet Registry, and keeping details updated are the best ways of ensuring pets and owners can be reunited, should they go missing.
