NT Government

Preventing violence, providing support to victim-survivors, and keeping women and children safe is a priority of the Territory Labor Government.

Today, the Territory Government has released $1 million worth of Domestic and Family Violence Partnerships grants.

The aim of this grants program is to support partnership projects that contribute to:

Enhanced collaboration and integration among Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations and specialist Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence services;Innovative, place based and community-led initiatives;Building the capacity of Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations to respond to and prevent domestic, family and sexual violence; andStrengthening capability of specialist DFSV services to deliver culturally safe and competent services.

Investing in programs for women who are or who have experienced domestic and family violence is another measure the Territory Government is supporting.

$250,000 has recently been invested in YWCA Australia – Darwin team to support their Keeping Women Safe in Their Homes program.

The Keeping Women Safe in Their Homes program provides risk assessments, safety planning and security upgrades for women and their children to help them stay in their own homes, or a home of their choice, provided it’s safe to do so.

Quotes from Minister for Territory Families and Urban Housing, the Hon Kate Worden:

“Domestic, family and sexual violence affects the whole community. It is only through a united effort from governments, communities and individuals that we can reduce its impact and prevalence.

“The partnerships program will support projects that assist Territorians who are experiencing violence, as well as those that increase the accountability of Territorians who are using violence. We want to be able to reach out to as many Territorians as possible.

“As a government we will fund programs and back initiatives that have direct and positive results for Territorians. YWCA’s Keeping Women Safe in Their Homes program is designed to make sure that the security of women and children is improved so they do not have to find alternative accommodation, and in some cases, become homeless.”
