Homicide detectives have charged a man with additional offences as part of investigations into the alleged murder of a girl in the Blue Mountains earlier this year.

Strike Force Buena was established by Blue Mountains Police Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl after she was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday 14 January 2022.

The body of the girl was located following a search near the Colo River on Tuesday 18 January 2022.

Later that day, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Riley Street, Surry Hills and charged with murder.

On Thursday 3 February 2022, a search was carried out in bushland near Mt Wilson where two firearms and ammunition were located.

The items were seized and underwent forensic examination.

Following inquiries, Homicide detectives attended a correctional facility in Silverwater today (Thursday 19 May 2022) and arrested the 31-year-old man.

He was charged with two counts of possess unregistered firearm, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without licence/permit, and aggravated break and enter in company.

Additionally, he was charged with two counts of possess child abuse material for unrelated matters.

The man is due to appear before Penrith Local Court tomorrow (Friday 20 May 2022).
