Nine years of hard work and collaboration will finally be celebrated today with the official opening of Fairpark Reserve’s $10.7million Multipurpose Community Facility.
“From state-of-the-art changerooms, to meeting and social spaces and enhanced accessibility, we have developed an incredibly modern and versatile facility, designed to meet the needs of not just our clubs, but for our broader Knox community, ” says Mayor Jude Dwight.
With $7.5million contributed by Council and in partnership with both Federal and State Government, AFL, Cricket Victoria and the reserve’s user groups, the facility has had a major upgrade and now has the capability to host community events.
In addition to the inclusion of the multi-purpose facility, upgrades to the reserve include:
- refurbishment of the existing U3A building – additional educational and classroom space to meet the recent and projected growth
- increased car parking and landscaping
- removal of existing pavilion
- new artwork installations
- netball court renewal
- new net cricket training facility.
While retaining the unique elements of its user groups, the reserve promotes new modes of interaction between its users and the broader community, catering to both recreational and functional needs, fostering a healthier, safer and more connected Knox.
