Gather Round kicks goals, register for Experience Development Program & more…

South Australian Tourism Commission

After the 2024 AFL Gather Round kicked goals for South Australia last week, exciting news was announced for the 2025 event with confirmation the Barossa will be a host venue.

The State Government is partnering with the Barossa Council to deliver a jointly-funded $40 million full-scale redevelopment of Lyndoch Recreation Park, drawing a huge national audience to the tourism region and supporting the local economy.

The Barossa Park Project will see the existing oval upgraded to meet AFL standards and deliver a precinct for multiple sports at community and professional levels. It will also open up new opportunities for festivals, the arts and conferences to come to the region.

Fans from across Australia and overseas flocked to Adelaide for nine matches and footy festivities across our CBD, Norwood, and Adelaide Hills.

Back for the first time since 2012, the Norwood Food and Wine Festival attracted an estimated more than 70,000 visitors on Sunday to enjoy some of our state’s best food and beverage offerings, matches on big screens, and live entertainment.

The inaugural AFL Gather Round in 2023 contributed more than $83 million to the South Australian economy, with initial reports indicating this year will go above and beyond this economic impact.

There is less than a week left to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the SATC’s pilot program. The Experience Development Program will see up to 20 businesses participate in three modules to help develop and deliver world class tourism products. Don’t miss out on this opportunity, EOIs close at 5.00pm, Monday 15 April.

Looking to our broader tourism strategy, we welcomed Tourism Australia’s Executive team to our office last week, including Managing Director, Pip Harrison. The immersion day was a great opportunity to provide them with an update on our current strategy, key international target markets, and our objectives for the future. It is important to align with Tourism Australia as we work together to progress our state and nation’s tourism industry to recover and grow our international markets.
