The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested and charged a 33-year-old male in relation to domestic violence offending that occurred in Elliott on Saturday morning.
It is alleged that around midnight on 12 September, the male assaulted his female partner aged in her 20s at a residence in Elliott. The alleged assault consisted of the female victim being struck to her face, before being stabbed repeatedly with a pair of scissors to her head, torso and to both of her arms.
Two family members of the victim intervened and conveyed her to the local health clinic for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The offender was arrested later that morning, and he has since been charged with Aggravated Assault and Breach of a Domestic Violence Order.
He was refused bail and will appear in the Tennant Creek Local Court today.
Tennant Creek Superintendent Mick Fields said, “This was a vicious and unprovoked alcohol fuelled assault on an innocent victim.
“Domestic Violence has no place in our community.”
