General Assembly to Elect Non-Permanent Security Council Members, Take Up Drafts on World Horse Day, Status of Georgian Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons

The General Assembly meets today to elect non-permanent members of the Security Council.

The 193-member body also takes action on a draft resolution to proclaim 11 July as World Horse Day (document A/79/L.89 ). Under its agenda item on protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development, it will discuss the status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia and the Secretary-General’s related report (document A/79/892 ), as well as take action on a related draft resolution (document A/79/L.90 ).
