Free Wi-Fi is now available to the community 24/7 in and around the Aboriginal Gathering Place in Doveton.
The City of Casey is pleased to announce the installation of its first Smart Connected Bench, a digitally connected smart bench that provides access to free Wi-Fi and digital charging stations.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon said Council is excited to deliver this much-needed resource to the community.
“Casey is always looking for innovative ways to connect the community digitally and wants all of the community to have access to these facilities,” she said.
“The location for the smart bench was carefully selected to address community challenges and concerns.
“The key solution was installing the smart bench adjacent to the Aboriginal Gathering Place, for access to Wi-Fi in an outdoor setting which is accessible 24/7.
“From here, Casey will evaluate the success of the bench and look at rolling out additional benches in different locations across the municipality.”
River Gum Ward Councillors Wayne Smith and Damien Rosario highlighted the benefits that the digital charging stations will have for the Doveton community.
“Access to Wi-Fi will be an asset to many in the Doveton community, the Smart Connected Bench provides improved outcomes for the community, providing facilities where connectivity significantly improves education and employment outcomes, especially in areas of high need,” Cr Smith said.
“This should relieve community members who often access the use of the Wi-Fi within business hours, as the centre is closed on weekends and outside of business hours,” Cr Rosario said.
The Smart Connected Bench is now connected and ready to be used by the community.
