Glitz, glamour, drama and a whole heap of Jazz – Chicago is coming to the Pioneer Theatre

One of the most iconic Broadway musicals of all time, Chicago, is coming to the Pioneer Theatre this May 13-18.

Performed by Blackout Theatre Company as part of their 2022 season line-up, the musical, set in the roaring jazz age in Chicago, follows the story of Roxie Hart (played by Emelie Woods), a chorus girl, who murders her lover and then manipulates her husband Amos (played by Greg Thornton) to take the blame.

Roxie is soon convicted and sent to death row where she strikes an unlikely friendship with Velma Kelly (played by Fiorella Bamba). The two ultimately join forces in search of fame, fortune and of course, freedom!

On top of this, the charismatic defence attorney, Billy Flynn (played by Alastair Norris) is determined to line his own pockets as he represents both Roxie and Velma.

President of Blackout Theatre Luke Quinn said the cast and crew were very excited to take to the Pioneer Theatre stage again after such a challenging time.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had such a massive impact on the arts, with everything essentially shut down for the best part of two years,” Quinn said.

“What better way to launch our season than with the iconic Chicago!

“For the first time we are using a combined seating plan with cabaret tables available in groups of 10, eight or six, so you can enjoy your refreshments and be closer to the action.

“Tickets are selling fast, but there are still plenty of great seats available, so grab yours now!” Quinn added.

Don’t miss out on seeing this timeless classic and singing-a-long to all your favourite tunes, including All That Jazz.
