Going last mile: Edmondson Park on-demand bus trial extended

Liverpool City Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s decision to extend the trial of an on-demand bus service at Edmondson Park.

The NSW Government has extended the Edmondson Park on-demand bus service, operated by Interline Bus Services, to June 2020. The operation allows customers to book a bus to take them to Edmondson Park train station.

“Edmondson Park residents have long been asking for better bus services and for additional commuter parking at the train station,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “The on-demand service offers a solution to both of these problems and residents have been quick to embrace it.

“On-demand bus services are a growing ‘last-mile mobility’ trend around the world. These kind of services and innovative projects such as Council’s Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) corridor are crucial to meet Liverpool’s future transport needs.

“Liverpool City Council looks forward to working with the NSW Government on further expanding the role of on-demand services as part of the additional bus services that our rapidly growing communities will require.

“This trial is a great start and we would like to see it as part of the long-term mix of the Government’s transport services both in Edmondson Park and other parts of Liverpool such as Prestons, Bardia and Middleton Grange. This would significantly boost the use of public transport in the area and make life better for thousands of people.”

The Edmondson Park on-demand pilot was the first transport service to trial Opal Connect, a new digital payments platform. Users are eligible for a $2 credit when they transfer to the Opal network within 60 minutes, meaning a one-way trip for adults typically costs just 60 cents.

Users can book an on-demand bus through the Interline Connect app and arrange to be picked up from a point close to their home and dropped at the train station.
