The Palaszczuk Government will supercharge the Gold Coast’s vaccination rollout – opening two new vaccination clinics in two weeks across the Coast.
The new clinics will include:
- Tugun – out the front of John Flynn Private Hospital – up to 800 doses a day, with capacity to surge to 1000
- Coomera – adjacent to Westfield Coomera – 2,500 doses a day, with capacity to administer 3000 in the future.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new clinics would complement the city’s largest hub at Broadbeach which is currently administering up to 2800 vaccinations per day.
“Our border is our first line of defence against the Delta variant getting into Queensland,” the Premier said.
“Recently, we’ve seen cases from Sydney reach as far north as Byron Bay.
“As our largest border community, it’s particularly important that we get as many Gold Coasters vaccinated as possible in coming weeks.
“That’s why we’re opening two new clinics at either end of the Coast – to make it easier for more Gold Coasters to walk in and get a jab.
“Work is under way now and both clinics will be up and running by the 11th of October.
“With plenty of reserved parking, there will be no better place to get vaccinated.
“In Queensland, we have a window of opportunity to vaccinate our population before we see more outbreaks in this state.
“If you’re yet to get a jab, I urge you to come forward.”
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath thanked the thousands of Gold Coasters who have already received vaccinations.
“The first COVID vaccination ever administered in Queensland was delivered on the Gold Coast about seven months ago,” she said.
“Since then, we’ve administered more than 60,000 vaccinations here on the Coast.
“That’s a great achievement. But we must do more. These clinics will help us ramp up on the Coast during what is a crucial stage of the vaccination rollout.”
Youth Affairs Minister and Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said more than 57 per cent of Gold Coasters had already received their first vaccination, and that the new hubs would open up more capacity in Queensland’s second largest city.
“We’ve already seen thousands of Gold Coasters get their COVID-19 vaccination, including at our Broadbeach hub, which is great. But we know we can do more,” Minister Scanlon said.
“I’m encouraging Gold Coasters to roll up their sleeves, get down to these new hubs and do their bit to protect our community.
“We’ve just announced another $70 million to support tourism and hospitality, and this announcement is just another part of our COVID-19 economic recovery plan.”
