Government must relieve pressure at testing sites

Tasmanian Labor

With demand for COVID testing continuing to grow across the state our health care workers are being put under additional pressure at testing clinics and the government must address this.

Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow said Labor had heard from many Tasmanians and interstate visitors frustrated by long wait times and in some cases, people being turned away at testing clinics around the state.

“It is time for the government to adequately resource testing clinics, increase the number of locations and look at all the options to relieve pressure on our testing clinics,” Ms Dow said.

“In some jurisdictions, wait times for testing clinics are frequently updated online and on social media, which keeps people informed and allows them to choose the best site and time to get tested.

“I would like to sincerely thank all of our booking and testing clinic staff who are working tirelessly under incredible pressure to keep Tasmanians safe. They are doing a tremendous job.

“The government must act to relieve pressure on our testing clinics. Long lines and wait times aren’t good for our staff or people waiting to get tested.”
