Premier Mark McGowan has acknowledged and thanked His Excellency the Honourable Kim Beazley for his service to the State, with the outgoing Governor’s term officially ending today, June 30.
Western Australia’s 33rd Governor has served in the role for more than four years.
Mr Beazley’s tenure is marked by his focus on championing Western Australia’s interests and his commitment to making Government House more accessible to the general public.
More than half of Mr Beazley’s tenure took place during the pandemic. During this time he played an important role, adapting the Governor’s duties while providing valuable counsel to the State Government as Western Australia responded to COVID-19.
During his time as Governor, Mr Beazley held 853 functions, welcomed 607 callers, hosted 140 patronage organisations and granted Royal Assent for 175 bills passed in Parliament.
A former Federal Parliamentarian for almost three decades, Mr Beazley is a former Deputy Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Australian National University and Ambassador to the United States of America.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“Kim Beazley is a remarkable Western Australian who has made an incredible contribution to our State over his decades of service.
“As his term as Governor comes to an end, I’d like to thank and acknowledge Mr Beazley for his tireless efforts as a steadfast advocate for Western Australia.
“Mr Beazley was a champion for the State’s interests over the course of his term as Governor and indeed his previous roles in public life.
“I am thankful Mr Beazley was able to serve as Governor throughout the uncertainty of the pandemic, providing valuable advice to Government during this difficult period.
“On behalf of all Western Australians, I’d like to thank Mr Beazley, his wife Susie and their family for their service over the past four years, and wish them all the best for the future.”
