Grants available for National road safety Week

The 2019 NationalYellow Ribbon Road Safety Week starts Monday, 6 May, with the Department ofInfrastructure, Planning and Logistics announcing the release of the TowardsZero Road Safety Grants Program to coincide with the nation-wide initiative.

Running from tillSunday 12 May 2019, National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from theSafer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, collaborating road safetyorganisations and Local, State, Territory, and Federal Governments acrossAustralia.

National RoadSafety Week forms part of the Territory Governments Towards Zero Road SafetyAction Plan, and aims to raise awareness that road safety is everyonesresponsibility.

Department ofInfrastructure, Planning and Logistics Chief Executive, Andrew Kirkman, said theNational Road Safety Week is an important reminder to drive safely on Territoryroads.

Every serious road crash has ongoing and devastating effects for ourfamilies and communities, said Mr Kirkman.

Over the last ten years, alarge portion of the Territorys significant road trauma and deaths was relatedto alcohol, speed or not wearing a seatbelt.

Its also a time for us toreflect and remember those weve lost. This year, weve already had 11 Territorians die on our roads.

Everyonecan support the cause by wearing a yellow ribbon, displaying a yellow ribbon onyour car adding a ribbon to your social media profile or making a pledgeonline.

Aspart of National Road Safety Week, community groups and organisations can applyfor the Towards Zero Road Safety Community Grants Program whichoffers funding for community projects that improve or promote road safety inour community.
