Grants program to raise awareness of elder abuse in regional WA

  • Regional organisations invited to apply for $3,000 grant funding for initiatives that raise awareness of elder abuse
  • Initiatives will mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is held on 15 June each year
  • Cook Government committed to preventing elder abuse

Minister for Seniors and Ageing Don Punch announced today grant funding of $52,500 is now available for regional initiatives that raise awareness of elder abuse and mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on 15 June.

Regional local governments and registered not-for-profit organisations around Western Australia can apply for grants of up to $3,000 to hold initiatives from 10-30 June to raise awareness of elder abuse. Metropolitan based organisations can also apply to run in-person regional activities.

Since 2011, WEAAD has been officially recognised by the United Nations and provides an opportunity for people around the world to unite in voicing opposition to elder abuse and the suffering it inflicts upon victims.

The grants program will be delivered by the Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre, with funding from the Department of Communities through an open competitive grants process closing on 12 April 2024.
