Cardinia Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of $6.7 million in funding for local community projects in Cardinia Shire through the Victorian Government’s 2019–20 Growing Suburbs Fund.
Projects to be supported by this fund are:
- My Place, expansion of youth centre – $3 million
- The construction of the Rix Road Family and Children’s Centre – $1.5 million
- The development of Officer District Park – $2.2 million
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield said the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund provides much-needed support towards local infrastructure in the fast-growing outer suburbs, and these grants would accelerate the delivery of critical community infrastructure and complement other funding sources.
“Council is committed to working with our community and all levels of government to deliver the facilities our growing community needs to thrive.
“We are so pleased to receive these grants on behalf of our community, and recognise and acknowledge the significant support of the Victorian Government for grants received through this year’s and previous rounds of its important Growing Suburbs Fund.
“This funding represents the Victorian Government’s commitment to understanding and supporting the needs of our fast growing community and will help us to build the infrastructure required for our future,” he said.
The Growing Suburbs Fund has brought forward critical community infrastructure priorities since its introduction in 2015, with local projects to receive support including: Heatherbrae Reserve Pavilion, IYU Soccer facility development and playgrounds, Growth Corridor District Playgrounds, Deep Creek Reserve, Eastern Ranges Trail, Cardinia Cultural Centre Redevelopment, Hills Hub and James Bathe Community and Sports Pavilion.
The project to expand Cardinia Shire’s youth centre, My Place, will provide a facility with greater capacity to support the needs of the shire’s fast-growing population of young people.
The $6 million project will be jointly funded with $3 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, $1.5 million from the Australian Government’s Community Health and Hospitals Program, and $1.5 million from Cardinia Shire Council.
The construction of a child and family centre at Rix Road will provide a range of services to support children and their families including early childhood education, care, health, and support services.
The Victorian Government’s funding contribution of $1.5 million will significantly contribute to this $6 million project.
The $5 million development of Officer District Park will have a unique adventure focus and provide a range of recreational opportunities that are currently under-provided for in this region including: a regional skate facility, mountain boarding facilities, a district play space, adventure trails, Café and public amenities, an extensive path network, wetlands and boardwalk area and fitness zone.
This $5 million project will be jointly funded with $2.2 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and $2.8 million from Cardinia Shire Council.
