Hamilton Moves – an Integrated Transport Plan for Connected Regional Centre

Southern Grampians Shire Council wants to understand how residents travel around Hamilton as part of a new transport study to better understand and identify gaps and future needs.

Hamilton Moves, funded by the Department of Transport, will allow Council to assess local needs to better understand current mobility patterns and to ultimately build a comprehensive map of Hamilton’s transport activities.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Bruach Colliton said the first phase of Hamilton Moves is really to gain a better understanding of how residents travel around the town, identifying where there may be connectivity issues and opportunities to improve.

“We invite all residents whether you drive to and from work, walk our footpaths or use public transport, to let us know how you move around Hamilton,” said Cr Colliton.

“Your feedback and local insight will help form the basis of this work by highlighting where potential transport gaps are, what we need to plan for into the future and how we could deliver better connections into and across the town.

“We want you to think about what would make your journey better. Would you ride into the CBD more if there were less trucks and more bike paths? Would you walk to work if there were better footpaths connections or maybe you avoid driving certain roads because they’re too dangerous or congested at peak times – we want to hear about it,” said Cr Colliton.

By visiting the Council website, residents can open a map of Hamilton and pinpoint areas where there are problems or opportunities and drop a pin with a comment or feedback. Other users can then see those and comment in support or start a discussion on the topic.

Providing information on local current transport habits through Hamilton Moves will enable Council to build a comprehensive picture of the regions transport needs, to continue advocacy work for Government support, and to focus on improving connectivity for residents of any age.

“This study will help Council continue to work towards the vision of being a well-connected dynamic regional centre and support a healthy and inclusive community,” concluded Cr Colliton.

Providing your feedback to Council is easy. Head to www.sthgrampians.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay, drop a pin and leave a comment on something you like or a problem you’ve identified. We will also have maps available at our library and customer service for those who would rather give their comments in person.
