Handgun, drugs seized when search warrant executed at Bankstown, NSW

Drugs, cash and a handgun have been seized and a man has been charged following an investigation into drug supply in Sydney’s south-west.

About 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday 20 February 2020), officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command were assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit, to execute a search warrant at an apartment on the Hume Highway at Bankstown.

Police will allege as they entered the unit a handgun thrown from the unit’s balcony; that firearm has been retrieved and sent forensic and ballistic examination.

The occupant, a 22-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

During a search of the apartment, police seized cocaine, cannabis, cash, ammunition and items consistent with drug supply.

The man has been charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug, two counts of possess prohibited drug, possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

He has been refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 21 February 2020).
