The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is calling for community feedback on plans to develop the new Tweed Valley Hospital, located at Cudgen in northern NSW.
The Department’s Executive Director of Infrastructure Assessments, David Gainsford, said community input is a vital part of the planning process and encouraged everyone to have their say on the proposal, which is on public exhibition now until 8 November 2019.
“Stage 2 of the development proposal includes the construction and operation of the main hospital building including expansion areas, support buildings, internal roads and car parking, external road infrastructure upgrades and site landscaping,” Mr. Gainsford said.
“The development proposal also seeks approval for the construction of a temporary Tweed Valley Skills Centre building to test and verify the design of key clinical spaces as well as providing access to construction training and jobs on the project.”
If approved, the development would see up to 650 construction workers on site at the peak of construction activity in 2021/22 and a significant increase in operational jobs upon completion, subject to funding and detailed workforce planning.
The Department is also seeking community feedback on Modification 2 of the concept proposal for the hospital development, which is also on exhibition until Friday 8 November 2019.
“Modification 2 to the concept proposal seeks to add new building envelopes for a multi-deck car park and temporary building and to increase the maximum permitted gross floor area to 65,050 square metres.
“The proposed changes also include revised landscaping concept and the relocation of electrical switching station kiosk,” Mr Gainsford said.
“We want to hear the community’s views on both Stage 2 of the development and the concept proposal modification.
“Community input is essential to help us make a thorough and rigorous assessment and ensure potential impacts are fully considered.
“Once the exhibition closes, the Department will consider all community submissions received, along with feedback from other government agencies and councils before finalising its assessment.”
