National Parks and Wildlife Service in conjunction with NSW Rural Fire Service is planning a hazard reduction burn for Scheyville National Park north of Scheyville Road, near Windsor in Sydney’s north west, from tomorrow Wednesday 17 August.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Area Manager Katie Littlejohn said the 85 hectares burn in Scheyville National Park is occurring in August to take advantage of suitable weather.
‘This burn will help protect the communities surrounding Scheyville and reduce the risk of wildfire to surrounding properties,’ Ms Littlejohn said.
‘The burn is due to begin at about 10am and motorists along Scheyville Road are reminded to beware of potential smoke hazard and drive to conditions.
‘Public access to the powerline precinct north of Scheyville Road including walk tracks and horse riding will be closed during the burning operations,’ Ms Littlejohn said.
Smoke from the burn program may be visible in the National Park and may also be evident in local communities depending on wind direction.
People with asthma or those who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.
This burn is one of the many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with the assistance of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), and Fire & Rescue NSW.
