Health services in the southern suburbs and throughout the State have received another boost with construction complete for the Town Square and the wheelchair sports stadium at the Marshall Liberal Government’s revitalised Repat Health Precinct.
On the fourth anniversary of Pete Malinauskas closing the Repat as Labor’s Health Minister, Premier Steven Marshall said the $115 million redevelopment of the precinct has reached a significant milestone.
“This Government has invested in returning the Repat back to a thriving health precinct for the community, while also creating about 400 jobs for South Australians through construction,” said Premier Marshall.
“These works are returning the heart and soul back to the Repat Health Precinct, celebrating the site’s history and ensuring patients have increased access to the tailored and integrated services they need.
“The Repat continues to expand and open services that provide South Australians with the care they need closer to home, while also cementing its place as a key pillar of statewide health care within our public health network.
“Each day we see more progress made at the Repat site and continue to reach more milestones – something all South Australians can be proud of.”
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said the Town Square has created a community hub within the Repat, featuring a state-of-the-art wheelchair sports stadium, flexible outdoor spaces and a community playground.
“The Town Square, located adjacent to the Repat Veteran Wellbeing Centre, provides a central hub to connect all services at the Repat and complements the rehabilitation services to aid patients’ recovery.
“Construction for new infrastructure on the site is also making strong progress with the Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facilities nearing completion and early works well underway for the new Surgical Facility and Dementia Care Home.
“Furthermore, we have opened 34 additional beds at the Repat in recent months, with the recently launched Transition to Home and Complex And RestorativE (CARE) services.”
“Since Pete Malinauskas closed the Repat as a Labor Health Minister four years ago today, the Marshall Liberal Government scrapped the sale of the site and is delivering on our $115 million commitment to revitalise the precinct as a vital part of South Australia’s future health system.”
SA Health Infrastructure Director of Property and Strategic Projects, Mark Filipowicz, said construction work to reactivate the Repat started in January 2020.
“The works on the Repat site have been progressing well. In addition to the Town Square and gymnasium, we have also completed works for the Specialised Advanced Dementia Unit, Repat Neuro-Behavioural Unit, Bangka Strait and the Veteran Wellbeing Centre,” Mr Filipowicz said.
“Seeing the ongoing progress and thriving community expand at the Repat shows we are returning the site to an integrated health precinct while also maintaining the site’s significant 75-year history.”
Construction works on the new Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facilities are expected to be completed by the end of 2021. HammondCare’s Dementia Care Home is expected to be completed in mid 2023 and the Surgical Facility is expected to be completed in 2024.
