Council is asking the community to put forward ideas to help name the new Robinvale Community Library building.
“The new library is due to open in early 2021, which will certainly be an exciting event that we’re all looking forward to,” Mayor Bill Moar said.
“In the lead up to the opening, we’re looking for the community’s help to name the new building where the library will be located.”
Built inside the grounds of Robinvale College, the library will be a space shared by the Robinvale College and the wider community. The new permanent library will replace weekly mobile library visits to Robinvale and the temporary school library.
The $2.55 million Robinvale Community Library Hub project is funded by Victorian State Government and Council. It is being managed by the Victorian Schools Building Authority and Department of Education and Training.
“It will be a place where people come to learn, study, use and borrow resources, engage with others, share stories and cultures, be part of the community, participate in activities or relax,” Cr Moar added.
“It is a space for everyone and a location for the community to come together.
“By asking the community for suggestions of names, this further emphasises the shared community ownership of the Robinvale Community Library and building.”
Suggestions of names for the new building must follow the criteria to be eligible for selection.
Names that relate to local or Aboriginal culture or language, a geographic name or feature, or a deceased person who has strong connections with the community and is held in high esteem, are all eligible for selection.
Suggestion forms can be completed via Council’s website.
Hard copies are also available from (and can be returned to) the Robinvale Resource Centre or Robinvale College front office.
Suggestion forms must be submitted by 12pm, Friday, 18 December 2020.
