Help shape vision for heart of Timboon

Residents are invited to share their ideas for Timboon at the community launch of the Timboon Precinct Plan on Saturday 24 February.

Mayor Kate Makin said that once completed, the plan would provide a clear guide to enhance Timboon’s public spaces to support businesses, encourage community use, and attract greater investment.

“We are at the ideas gathering stage,” Cr Makin said.

“The town centre is being used more for events and tourism activities linking the Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail and the Twelve Apostles Trail.

“Where’s the best location for a new public toilet? What would encourage visitors to spend more time in Timboon? How can we improve connections in the town centre and to the natural environment? Is there an opportunity the town is missing?

“All the ideas and feedback collected will help shape a community vision and priorities for the town centre precinct,” Cr Makin said.

The free event includes a pop-up ice cream van and barbecue on the green in front of a Little Bit of Sweet from mid-morning.

“There will be activities to keep the kids busy while you drop into the stall and chat to the project team about your vision for the town.

“We want everyone in Timboon to have a say about what you love about our town centre, and what you want to see in the future,” Cr Makin said.

Acting Director Sustainable Development Aaron Moyne said Council was undertaking the project to develop a community-led vision for the town.

“The purpose of the Precinct Plan is to deliver a succinct and visual urban design framework for Timboon’s public spaces, within the town centre,” Mr Moyne said.

“With multiple landowners and managers, it is important that a design and land use framework be established to ensure that future public sector investment and community benefits are best realised.

“The finished precinct plan will provide an urban design framework that is easily understood with clear recommendations and practical design outcomes.”
