Help sought after man seriously injured in hit and run in Chullora

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was seriously injured in a hit and run in Sydney’s south-west.

About 8.20pm last Saturday (29 January 2022), emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Hume Highway and Muir Street, Chullora.

A 21-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He reportedly suffered fractures to the right collarbone and wrist.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were told a grey Toyota Aurion sedan was travelling south along the Hume Highway when it allegedly proceeded through a red traffic control light and struck the man who was crossing the roadway. The vehicle failed to stop and was seen to turn east onto Northcote Road.

A crime scene was established that was later examined by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, the vehicle was located in Rosalie Crescent, Greenacre, about 7.30pm the following day (Sunday 30 January 2022). It has been seized for forensic examination.

Strike Force Ophir has been established to investigate the circumstances of the crash, comprising investigators from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
