Historic Wagga Wagga school buildings destroyed by fire, NSW

Several buildings have been destroyed after a fire broke out in a historic Wagga Wagga public school this morning.

Fire & Rescue NSW arrived about 1.30am (Saturday 5 January 2019), to find a two-storey building on Simmons Street, Wagga Wagga, well alight.

The fire spread from the two-storey brick building to an attached single-storey weatherboard classroom. Both buildings were destroyed; the damage has been estimated at more than $1 million.

Fire & Rescue NSW units from Wagga Wagga, Albury, Temora, were assisted by local NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers.

Fire investigators are working with crime scene officers to determine the cause of the blaze.
