Collections items in the Armidale Folk Museum have sparked many a conversation.
In September, those conversations will also help to foster stronger connections between the Armidale community and the recently resettled Ezidi refugees who now call the region home.
The Museum team is excited to be hosting two Stories Connect public workshops, being held by the New England Writers’ Centre to encourage creative expression and fruitful bonds between Ezidi residents and other members of the community.
The Story Starter sessions will be held on Sunday 1 September and Sunday 15 September, both from 2.30 to 4pm.
“Our displays and exhibition items have delighted and educated many locals and visitors to our region,” Museum Team Leader Hayley Ward said.
“We’re thrilled they will also help to bring our community together through the wonderful Stories Connect initiative.”
The writers’ centre is delivering Stories Connect in partnership with Settlement Services International, Armidale Regional Council and Arts North West.
It is using a mix of writing and illustration workshops for primary school children, a manga/anime workshop for young people and storytelling/sharing sessions for adults and children.
The program has received funding support from the Country Arts Support Program, Regional Arts Fund, and Create NSW.
