Hold a sale or shop Trail

Spring is the perfect time for a home or style makeover. Whether you’re decluttering, redecorating or searching for a unique vintage shirt, there’s something for everyone on the Garage Sale Trail.

Residents are encouraged to breathe new life into their pre-loved items by joining people all over Australia and holding a garage sale over the weekend of 19 and 20 October 2019.

There’s strength in numbers as residents across Port Phillip hold simultaneous garage sales, making it easier for eagle-eyed buyers to grab a bargain. The Garage Sale Trail website makes it simple for people to sign up or plan their route for the weekend.

No garage? No problem! The Liardet Community Centre has 30 tables available for residents to share their wares.

Mayor Dick Gross said the Garage Sale Trail is a great opportunity for the community to get involved with a national weekend of garage sales.

“It’s a weekend to meet your neighbours, declutter and pick up some second-hand-chic bargains,” Cr Gross said.

“Small actions drive big change, and households, local businesses, charities, schools and community groups are all encouraged to register for the Garage Sale Trail. By recycling and reusing, we’re diverting pre-loved items away from landfill, helping the environment and saving money. Council is proud to support such a fantastic initiative.”

Last year, more than three million kilograms of pre-loved items across 15,000 garage sales were sold Australia-wide. The average household sold 90 items, made $309 and met 46 local people.

From children’s toys to clothing, furniture and antique tea sets, Garage Sale Trail has it all.

“Council is working with the community and calling on groups and individuals to get involved to generate great environmental and social outcomes,” Cr Gross said.

The benefits of Garage Sale Trail extend throughout the community, with many organisations using the Trail to fund various programs and services.
