Holden State of Origin series launched

The Holden State of Origin Series was launched today in Sydney, as the sporting rivalry without rival prepares to head to Perth for the first time.

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler and Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters joined South Sydney Rabbitohs team mates, turned Origin rivals, Damien Cook and Dane Gagai at the launch in Sydney today, along with NRL Head of Football – Elite Competitions, Graham Annesley.

“There is no rivalry in Australia that can match the pride and passion of a Holden State of Origin Series,” Mr Annesley said.

“The way our players and fans embrace Origin each and every year is something to behold and we’re thrilled to be showcasing Rugby League’s showpiece event in Perth for the first time.

“It’s rivalry without rival, so despite the Blues success last year there’s no question Queensland will have a burning desire to get back to their winning ways.”

The 2019 Holden State of Origin Series will kick off on June 5 at Suncorp Stadium, followed by Game Two – a standalone Sunday fixture – at Optus Stadium on June 23, and Game Three at ANZ Stadium on July 10.

State of Origin has always been a special time of year for me and last year it went to a whole new level after I was given the opportunity to coach the team for the first time,” Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler said.

“It was an awesome experience ushering in a new generation of NSW players and it was exciting to see them rewarded with a series win for all the hard work and effort they put in.

“This year presents another challenge as we’re defending the Shield and I’m excited about the prospect of taking the game to new frontiers in Perth.

“The Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues will be giving their utmost again and I can’t wait for the series to begin.”

Maroons Coach Kevin Walters said: “From my perspective, State of Origin is simply the best time of the year.”

“It’s been that way ever since I watched Arthur Beetson run out for the Maroons; and I’m now extremely privileged to be in this position as we bring through the next generation of Queenslanders.

“Our focus will be on getting our preparation right for Game I, as we all know how crucial it is to the outcome of the series. We’ll be doing everything in our power to ensure Queensland fans are extremely proud of their team’s performance when they leave Suncorp Stadium.”

The 2019 Holden State of Origin Series is supported by Destination NSW and Tourism Western Australia.
