Home Improvement Scheme Expanded and Extended

Due to the overwhelming success of the Home Improvement Scheme, the Territory Labor Government is expanding it and extending it to help more households and save more jobs.

There are currently 9571 applications for the Home Improvement Scheme Vouchers.

To make sure as many Territorians as possible can benefit, we are doubling the investment to $60 million, and extending the work program for another six months.

Territorians will have until 5pm Friday 17 April to get their applications in to be considered for the vouchers.

The available vouchers are:

  • $6000 grant for a Territory homeowner or landlord who also contributes $2000; or a
  • $4000 grant for a $1000 contribution.

Applications will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, and they will be assessed and approved in stages so that the work lasts for about a year.

Initially budgeted for $30 million for six months of work, the Government is now budgeting for about $60 million for 12 months of work.

The work will be staged to make sure the economic benefits are spread over the next 12 months.

This gets the Territory through the dry and the wet, and out the other side, when the Territory economy will be ready to bounce back.

As noted by Chief Minister, Michael Gunner:

“When you spend a dollar in the Territory, you save a Territory job – and in times like these we need our community to band together to keep our small, local businesses open.

“Our tradies now have a massive pipeline of work. But we want that work to last, so the benefits for the rest economy can last as well.

“Right now we need to stick together and do everything possible to protect the economy and protect jobs.”
