Homemade pistol found in stolen car in Ferntree Gully

Officers working the Boronia van last night arrested two men and seized an alleged home-made pistol after they were found in a stolen car in Ferntree Gully.

The pair were arrested in Hayward Road, after uniformed officers intercepted another car travelling the wrong way down Burwood Highway just after 10pm.

The concerned motorist advised police he had just been at a nearby carwash and was approached by two men who asked for the wheels to his car as they had a flat tyre.

When the man refused, the pair allegedly flashed red and blue lights from their sun visor. In a hurry to flee from the men the man mistakenly drove off on the wrong side of the road.

Police patrolled the area and came across the men from the car wash in an allegedly stolen Ford Territory, with stolen plates.

They made an attempt to leave the area however were arrested by police.

A search of the car located a loaded home-made firearm, a quantity of drugs believed to be methylamphetamine and the blue and red flashing lights.

A 21-year-old Ferntree Gully man has been charged with commit indictable offence while on bail, theft of motor car and contravene conditions of bail.

The 28-year-old Bon Beach man has been charged with prohibited person possess firearm, theft of motor car, possess methylamphetamine, possess counterfeit money, handle stolen goods and possess prohibited weapon without an exemption.

The pair have been remanded to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court today.
