How to stay Healthy at Home with our new online toolkit

The City’s new Healthy at Home online toolkit is a resource for residents to find reliable advice on how to create and live a healthy lifestyle.

With so much content available online, the City’s Healthy Communities team recognised the need to provide the Geelong community with fact-checked, authoritative information in one location.

The toolkit shares a range of ideas that can be easily adopted at home, including in times of isolation or in the cooler months when venturing outside is less appealing but staying physically and mentally healthy remains important.

The toolkit was inspired by the current coronavirus pandemic but the resource hub will remain relevant to residents for years to come with new updates and curated content to be added regularly.

The initiative focuses on four key priority areas:

• Mental health and wellbeing

• Food and nutrition

• Physical activity

• Positive and respectful relationships

Healthy at Home has launched as an online platform with curated resources offering a variety of accessible advice for our whole community across life stage, disability, multicultural and Aboriginal backgrounds.

There are tips and tricks, picture graphics, recipes, lists, links and much more. For residents without access to the internet, printed toolkits can be requested by phoning 5272 5272.

When physical distancing and mass gathering restrictions eventually ease, we hope to deliver the Healthy at Home message in other ways like community activations.Explore the Healthy at Home toolkit.

Greater Geelong Mayor – Stephanie Asher

The health and wellbeing of the Greater Geelong community is our priority.

For many of us, we are trying to navigate this new way of living as we spend more time at home.

There’s a lot of information out there, so our Healthy Communities team is making it easier for us to find the good stuff.

I encourage residents to take a look at the Healthy at Home toolkit and use it as a starting point to support their health and wellbeing.

Chair, Community Health, Wellbeing and Safety portfolio – Cr Pat Murnane

The Healthy at Home toolkit has been designed to help people support the health and wellbeing of themselves and their families.

It features a lot of very helpful information and practical tools. There are tips on sleeping well, mindfulness exercises, links to online fitness classes, recipes for delicious infused water, and even a meal planning template and sample shopping list.

That’s just some of what’s on offer – I recommend visiting the website and having a look.
