About the team and what we offer

The Climate Change Authority (CCA) is an independent statutory body established to provide balanced, expert, evidence-based advice to the Australian Government on climate change, including through conducting regular and specifically commissioned reviews and through undertaking climate change research.

The Corporate Services Team works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team to provide strategic and operational services and advice across the agency’s finance, procurement and human resource functions and maintain the Authority’s corporate governance framework and compliance. The team are also responsible for all security matters across the Authority including ICT and facilities management.

The HR and Payroll Enabling Officer will provide payroll and human resource services for the Authority. This will include providing generalist HR advice and assisting in the processing of the fortnightly payroll and management of the Aurion Human Resource Management System (HRIS).

This role will support a collaborative team to achieve complex procedural, operational, administrative and business support work within an integrated workforce. You will provide detailed administration, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

  • Ability to work in a fluid environment, remaining flexible, agile and adaptable supporting colleagues at short notice.

  • Experience in using Aurion Human Resource Information System (HRIS) an advantage.

What you will do

The successful applicant will:

  • Overseeing and processing fortnightly payroll from start to finish
  • Providing high quality administrative and management support services.
  • Maintaining payroll records in an accurate and confidential manner.
  • Providing generalist HR advice
  • Responding to enquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare termination calculations and payments
  • Administer PAYG and Payroll Taxation reporting and coordinate payments
  • Administer Superannuation payments and records with company superannuation provider
  • Preparation of Payroll EFT files
  • Provide payroll expertise and advice to support employees and management staff
  • Create and implement payroll policies and guidelines and prepare payroll reports
  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, and development, and associated compliance activities, including preparing employment contracts and maintaining staff files
  • Coordinate, process, and administer payroll and leave management
  • Maintain employment and workforce-related documentation

Eligibility and security clearance

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
  • Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher level security clearance. If you are offered a role and do not have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.
  • Be medically fit to undertake the duties of the job.
  • This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

This is an ongoing role. The Authority offers Individual Flexible Arrangements when appropriate and for the most suitable applicant. There are opportunities to consider Flexible Working Agreements.

This process is being used to fill roles that are either non-ongoing or on-going vacancies in the Authority. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within the Authority over the next 12 months.
