HRI members present at CSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting

Several members of the Heart Research Institute (HRI) presented at the 71^stCardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) Annual Scientific Meeting.

The event was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from August 3 to 6 and included an incredible line-up of international speakers and live hospital sessions.

Manisha Patil, a PhD student with the Vascular Complications Group at HRI, was a finalist for the highly coveted CSANZ Ralph Reader Prize in Basic and Translational Science.

The Ralph Reader Prize, named after the late Director and Chief Executive of the National Heart Foundation, was first presented in 1980 and remains the most prestigious award to young investigators by the CSANZ.

Manisha delivered an impressive presentation, and her ‘proud’ supervisor, Assoc Prof Mary Kavurma, was among those praising her achievement.

Several other HRI members also had posters or presented at the conference.

• Sarah Hardie, Clinical Research Group – A 30-year analysis of paediatric congenital heart disease in NSW
• Dr Nicole Lowes, Heart Rhythm and Stroke Prevention Group – Time trends in stroke risk management among patients with atrial fibrillation in Australia between 2011-2019
• Weizhen (Eva) Li, Atherosclerosis and Vascular Remodelling Group – Colchicine’s inflammation-independent modulation of smooth muscle cell phenotypes in plaque regression through TGFβ signalling
