IAG’s ongoing support for customers impacted by east coast storms and floods

IAG, whose brands include NRMA Insurance, CGU and WFI continues to support customers in Far North Queensland impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper, as well as those in Southeast Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria affected by the recent, and current, severe storms and floods.

NRMA Insurance Executive General Manager Luke Gallagher said the insurer was moving quickly to support customers and progress claims with teams both on-the-ground in the most severely impacted areas, as well as over the phone and online, to help people get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

“Our Major Event Response, Assessing and Claims teams and our partner repairers are on-the-ground in Cairns and the Gold Coast region, supporting customers with their claims and providing immediate help such as emergency financial assistance and temporary accommodation,” Mr Gallagher said.

Our focus at this stage is ensuring our customers are safe, have temporary accommodation if required, and progressing their claims through the assessment and repair process.

“We work closely with our customers to provide suitable accommodation through the support of our dedicated accommodation partner that specialises in securing short and long-term properties, that reflect our customer’s needs.

“We also have 12 partner repairers on-the-ground in the Gold Coast region assessing damage to properties and conducting Make-Safe repairs to allow some customers to return home where it is suitable to do so.

“We also have a team of Claims Consultants at the Cairns Recovery Centre to provide customers impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper with face-to-face support.”

“While the majority of claims are for property damage, there are many customers whose vehicles were damaged in the recent storms. We’re undertaking mobile assessments for damaged vehicles in Southeast Queensland and have set up sites in Central West New South Wales where our Specialist Hail Repairers are triaging vehicle repairs.”

IAG’s Natural Perils team is also closely monitoring heavy rainfall in parts of Victoria, with several ‘watch and act’ warnings currently in place for flash flooding in Goulburn, Campaspe, King Rivers and Fifteen Mile Creek.

“Where possible we will engage and use local trades to support impacted communities. This ability to scale at pace ensures our customers can receive immediate help and support when they need it most,” continued Mr Gallagher.

“We urge Victorian residents impacted by the heavy rainfall and potential flooding to make safety their priority, follow the directions of the emergency authorities and don’t enter floodwaters. We are on standby and are well prepared to help customers that may be affected by this ongoing weather event.

IAG has received 11,077 claims as of 8 January 2024 as a result of the extreme weather across the nation’s east coast (23 December 2023 to 8 January 2024).
