Illawarra woman charged with attempting to import drugs from Netherlands, NSW

A woman has been charged following a strike force investigation into the alleged importation of illicit drugs in the Illawarra region.

In August 2020, Strike Force Boondelbah was established by investigators from the Southern Region Enforcement Squad to investigate the importation of border-controlled drugs to the Illawarra.

Acting on information, strike force investigators arrested a 33-year-old woman at a home on Malcolm Avenue, Cringila, on Tuesday 29 September 2020.

A search warrant was executed at the home a short time later, with investigators seizing a number of items relevant to the investigation.

The woman was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where she was charged with supply prohibited drug and import a marketable quantity of a border control drug.

Police will allege the woman purchased 750 grams of Gamma butyrolactone (GBL) from the Netherlands in August 2020, with the intention of importing it to an address in Cringila.

The woman was granted strict conditional bail to appear in Port Kembla Local Court today (Wednesday 21 October 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
