Images released as investigation into shooting continues at Wollongong, NSW

Detectives have released images of two men they would like to speak to as investigations continue into an alleged shooting in Wollongong earlier this year.

Just before 9pm on Tuesday 24 March 2020, a 50-year-old man entered a stairwell of a unit complex on Market Street, and was approached by two men who were allegedly armed with a hammer and firearm.

As the 50-year-old man attempted to walk past the pair, they allegedly assaulted him, before he was shot in the leg. The two men ran from the complex and fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.

The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to a bullet wound to his knee.

Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Following extensive inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident on Friday 12 June 2020. He remains bail refused, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday 16 September 2020.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for help from the public to identify two men who may be able to assist with the investigation. They were seen outside the City Beach Motel on the corner of Crown Street and Harbour Street, Wollongong, about midday on Wednesday 25 March 2020.

One of the men was wearing red shorts, a grey top and grey baseball cap, while the other was wearing dark clothing.

Police would also like to identify the driver/owner of the silver Commodore sedan depicted in photographs at the intersection of Harbour and Crown Street, Wollongong, about midday on Wednesday 25 March 2020. The man wearing the red shorts and grey top is believed to have entered this vehicle.
