Improvements designed to expand privileges for flight instructors

This follows feedback from industry that the privileges of the Grade 1 training endorsement did not reflect the responsibilities that would normally be associated with these instructors.

This change reduces the burden on flight examiners by introducing a more proportionate approach so more people can assess and grant authorisations.

What this means

The changes will benefit:

  • Grade 1 training endorsement holders
  • trainees for the nominated authorisations
  • flight training operators.

Flight instructors with a Grade 1 training endorsement can now:

  • train other instructors who are qualifying for some additional training endorsements without holding the instructor rating training endorsement
  • conduct assessments (flight tests) for several other authorisations that the Grade 1 training endorsement holder is authorised to conduct training for.
