Improving safety on our farms

Elise Archer,Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is taking action to help primary producers in the agriculture sector improve safety in their workplaces through the $2 million Primary Producer Safety Rebate Scheme.

This delivers the commitment we took to the 2021 election and provides cash-back rebates of up to $5,000 for primary producers who implement safety measures that help reduce work-related injuries and fatalities in the agriculture sector.

Pleasingly, 225 applications have already been received and of the 136 applications currently processed, $642,979 has been paid out to primary producers for eligible safety solutions.

The Scheme targets the most common hazards that cause death and injury in this sector, such as vehicle incidents involving quad bikes and tractors.

Applicants will need to identify the hazard at their workplace, explain what the risk associated with that hazard is, and why implementing one of the eligible solutions would reduce that risk.

Our Government wants to see a demonstrated improvement in safety on our farms, and I encourage our primary producers in the agriculture sector to view the eligibility criteria and apply at: https://www.worksafe.tas.gov.au/topics/services-and-events/safe-farming-tasmania/primary-producer-safety-rebate-scheme
