Increased pedestrian accessibilty in Dubbo

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) staff have been busy constructing a number of footpaths over the past 12 months to improve accessibility and safety in Dubbo.

From May 2022 to now over 2000m of new footpaths have been completed in Dubbo. The locations of these new footpaths include:

  • Cobra St between Gipps and Fitzroy Sts (170m)
  • Intersection of Fitzroy and Bultje Sts (25m)
  • Around Barden Park including Fitzroy, Gipps and Macleay Sts (570m)
  • Wingewarra St between Aspen and Belah Sts (390m)
  • Dalton St between Boundary Rd and Ronald St (320m)
  • Cobra St from Wheelers Lane to 243 Cobra St (170m)
  • Websdale Drive from Myall St to Ron Gordon Place (400m)

In addition to the construction of the new footpaths, 42 pram crossings have also been installed with warning tactiles. The pram crossings have been installed in new footpaths as well as in existing footpaths at key locations including North Dubbo Public School, St Laurence’s School, Dubbo South Public School and the Fitzroy St walking route.

“The new footpaths have improved accessibility in these key areas in Dubbo, especially those that experience a high volume of pedestrians on a daily basis such as the footpaths and pram crossings near schools,” Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council, Mathew Dickerson said.

“Continuing to maintain, improve and increase the pedestrian access in the Dubbo Region is one of Council’s actions as part of the operational plan. It is great to see so many footpaths and pram crossings being completed which is a great benefit to the community.”

The footpath and pram crossing projects are funded through three different grants including the Get NSW Active, School Zone Infrastructure Program and Active Transport Walking/Cycling.

Dubbo Regional Council now has 122.57km of paved footpaths across the Local Government Area.
