Indian Ocean Territories Health Service Community Advisory Committee

Community advisory groups are an important mechanism for ensuring local people have their say in how we design and deliver health services in the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) of Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI).

After a review of the efficiency and effectiveness of the CI and CKI Health Advisory Groups, and their Terms of Reference, I am pleased to announce a merger of the two groups.

The new IOT Health Service Community Advisory Committee will consist of 10 community representatives (five each from CI and CKI) and have a broadened scope of work that is aligned with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s Partnering with Consumers Standard.

It will operate under revised Terms of Reference, in effect from 1 March 2020 to 31 December 2021.

Mrs Natasha Griggs, the Administrator of the Territories of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, will continue her role as Chair.

I am seeking Expressions of Interest from IOT residents who are committed to ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality health services to join the new committee.

The committee will provide local people the opportunity to contribute to the design, delivery, measurement and evaluation of health services, and inform initiatives to address local health issues, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

An information package is available on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development’s website, including Terms of Reference, and an application form and privacy statement.

I encourage you to submit your Expression of Interest by 11:59pm local (island) time, Friday, 28 February 2020.
