The tragic loss of her father to prostate cancer 25 years ago has prompted Sydney/Melbourne-based business leader and Director Nicki Anderson to sign up for this year’s Dry July campaign to raise funds against the deadly disease.
The seasoned business leader will be taking part in this year’s campaign for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, quitting alcohol to help raise awareness and funds.
This will be the third year in a row Anderson has taken part, raising over $$9380 to date.
“This cause is close to home for me, and it’s a great way for me to support an organisation that is doing important work to support men and families who are affected by prostate cancer,” Ms Anderson said.
“My family knows all too well the pain that prostate cancer can cause, and I am deeply committed to making a difference in any way I can.”
“I want to ensure other families don’t experience the heartache and loss that my family has experienced.
“Every dollar raised from my campaign will be dedicated to PCFA prostate cancer nurses and the nationwide PCFA prostate cancer telenursing service.”
CEO of PCFA, Anne Savage, commended Ms Anderson’s philanthropic contribution and leadership integrity.
“We are humbled to have Ms Anderson’s support, both as a National Director of PCFA but also as a Dry July fundraiser, walking the talk on our mission,” Ms Savage said.
“Two in three Australian men who are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer receive the support of a PCFA prostate cancer nurse, but there are so many more who urgently need our help right now.
“Ms Anderson is helping us to help them in a life-changing way, ensuring they do not walk alone when prostate cancer strikes.”
Prostate cancer is a major threat to men’s health in Australia, with nearly 25,000 men diagnosed every year.
“Around 250,000 Australian men are alive today after a diagnosis and many continue on treatments today.
“We are tremendously grateful to have Ms Anderson campaigning for us in Dry July.”
