Mildura Rural City Council and Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) will host a Waste Information Session from 3:30pm on Sunday 7 August.

The session will take place at SMECC’s 107-111 Twelfth Street headquarters and provide advice and tips on how best to manage household waste, while also discussing best practices to sort waste correctly.

Council’s Waste Education Officer will lead the session, which will be open to anyone interested in attending. No registrations are required.

Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica encouraged those interested in learning more about waste management to attend.

“That ability to work directly with our community and pass on that education and advice, especially in the waste management space, has been sorely missed during the pandemic,” he said.

“We are now in a position to get out in the community and pass on that advice first-hand to those who want and need it.”

Cr Modica said this information session had come about following a direct request from members of our region’s Burrundian community.

“Thanks to our relationship with SMECC, we’ve been able to extend the invitation out to a number of our culturally-diverse groups, and the wider community,” he said.

“Being able to hold these types of information and educational sessions is certainly something we will continue to do in the future as we continue our strategy of diverting more waste from landfill.

“Understanding what waste goes where is just the start of the conversation.”
