Integrity Commission Report into THS North West

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

As Minister for Health, I have an expectation that all staff across the Tasmanian Health Service and the Department of Health will come to work for each shift knowing they have the opportunity to contribute to a workplace underpinned by the core values of integrity, accountability, working together and a focus on supporting people.

The behaviour that is outlined in the Integrity Commission’s Summary Report, which was tabled in Parliament today, is unacceptable.

I have asked the Secretary of the Department of Health to review the Report and provide the Government with advice as to whether any further action is required regarding the specific matters raised.

Further, I have asked the Secretary to ensure that the Health Executive uses this as an opportunity to ensure the new governance structure, announced in February 2020, fully realises the intended aims of strengthening accountability and empowering local leadership to deliver the support our hospitals need.

My very clear expectation is that the learnings from this investigation will lead to further cultural improvement across the entire THS.
