Introducing T Litter of crime-fighters

Last month, Queenslanders were asked to put their best suggestions forward to name six soon to be crime-fighting canines for the Queensland Police Service, and today Police Minister the Honourable Mark Ryan MP announced their names.

Running for three weeks, the competition to name the T Litter caught the imagination of the Queensland public.

“We received just shy of 28,000 suggestions, proving just how much the Queensland public values the work of the QPS Dog Squad,” Minister Ryan said.

“I can reveal the final names, which have been chosen based on some of the most popular submissions.

“They are Tank, Turbo, Thurston and Trigger for the male dogs and Trixie and Tay Tay for the female dogs.

Minister Ryan said some of the names had significant meaning behind them and it was important for the Dog Squad to honour this meaning.

Thurston has been named after Queensland NRL great, Johnathan Thurston, and if successful in training, will join the ranks of PD Gilly, PD Hornet and PD Cozza, all named after prominent Queensland sporting figures.

Minister Ryan said the Dog Squad was one of the most active and essential frontline services of the QPS.

“The puppies will now go into the socialisation phase of their training and will be regularly checking in with the Dog Squad as they develop,” Minister Ryan said.

Commissioner Ian Stewart said the T Litter had been oblivious to the media spotlight as they developed into social media stars, captivating Queensland’s attention through regular ‘pupdates’ shared throughout their development.

“We know Queenslanders love being involved in naming our puppies and we are truly appreciative of the overwhelming response,” Commissioner Stewart said.

“The T Litter is now ready to be collected by their foster carers who will look after them until they are old enough to join the Dog Squad on a full-time basis.”

Good luck T Litter!
