Investigation continues into fatal collision at Great Western

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating a three-vehicle collision in Great Western that has claimed the life of one person.

It is believed a truck carrying multiple vehicles and a ute collided on the Western Highway just after 10pm, a second truck then crashed into the initial collision scene.

The yet to be identified male driver of the ute, and only occupant, has died at the scene.

The driver of the truck carrying cars, a 50-year-old man from Lalor, has been taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries and will be interviewed at a later date.

The driver of the other truck, a 63-year-old man from Albion, was not injured and has been exonerated from any wrong-doing.

The exact cause of the collision is still being investigated.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area near Churchill Crossing Road as the Western Highway will be closed for some time between Ararat and Stawell.
