Investigation uncovers elaborate hydroponics system at Portland, NSW

A man has been charged after police allegedly uncovered a hydroponic house in the state’s Central Tablelands.

About 9.05am yesterday (Thursday 29 August 2019), officers attached to Chifley Police District, with the assistance of Chifley Target Action Group and Western Region highway patrol, executed a search warrant at a residence on Wolgan Street at Portland.

The search warrant was obtained following an investigation into the cultivation of prohibited plants at the location.

It is alleged police located an elaborate hydroponic cannabis system within seven rooms of the house.

The hydroponics system was dismantled and a total of 191 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $955,000 were removed.

A Bass Hill man, aged 30, was arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station where he was charged with cultivate prohibited plant – commercial quantity, and use electricity without authority.

He was bail refused to appear before Lithgow Local Court today (Friday 30 August 2019).
