Investigations continue after man located in possession of stolen goods at Blue Mountains, NSW

Blue Mountains police have charged a man after allegedly locating him in possession of stolen goods during proactive patrols of fire-affected areas at the weekend.

About 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday 12 January 2020), officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command were patrolling a dirt access road between Blackheath and Medlow Bath railway stations.

Police observed a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a silver Nissan Pulsar, with a clear zip-lock bag containing what officers suspected to be cannabis.

During a subsequent vehicle search, officers located and seized fire-fighting equipment and a National Parks and Wildlife Service uniform, which are believed to be stolen, and cannabis.

The 56-year-old man, who is not a member of the National Parks and Wildlife Service or the Rural Fire Service, was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station.

He was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and possess prohibited drug.

The Carlton man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Katoomba Local Court on Monday 27 January 2020.

Inquiries are continuing.
