Investigations continue after shooting of dog near Tamworth

Investigations are continuing following a shooting near Tamworth overnight.

Just after 9pm (Thursday 31 August 2023), police were called to a home in Coromandel Street, South Tamworth, following reports of shots fired.

On arrival, officers from Oxley Police District were told that six males, one armed with a machete and another with a firearm, were arguing with a 48-year-old man at the property.

One of the males fired a shot at the 48-year-old man’s dog, hitting the dog in the leg.

The six males fled the scene, and no other injuries were reported. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for further treatment.

A crime scene was established, and investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, police urge any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision to come forward.
