Investing In Our Grassroots Sporting Clubs

Tasmanian Government

Nearly $6 million will be invested into 26 of the State’s bowls clubs as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said Kings Meadows Bowls Club was one of the clubs this Government is backing in.

“The Club will receive $980,000 to develop the first stage of a new High Performance Training Centre,” Minister Duigan said.

“This project ticks all the boxes in terms of high-quality, safe, inclusive and fit-for-purpose community sport.

“Sporting clubs unite communities. But not only that, they also keep Tasmanians healthy and active.

“Our Government is supporting sporting facilities and their members in every region of Tasmania.”

The 2024-25 Budget drives the delivery of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“It ensures Tasmanians, young and old, will have access to more sporting and wellbeing opportunities than ever before,” Minister Duigan said.

“In total, more than $86 million will be invested into supporting active initiatives, sporting organisations and community sporting infrastructure over the next four years.

“As part of this, we will invest $21.5 million to reinvigorate the Elphin Sports Centre. Construction is well underway on a $43.6 million dollar sport and recreation hub at Mowbray.

“Sport runs in the veins of Tasmanian communities, and access to sports and activities can be life changing.

“As a government we are committed to the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians of all ages. That’s why we encourage everyone to get involved in a health or wellness activity.

“Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’re going to keep supporting local sports by making sure that they have the facilities needed to play on.”
